Where I’ll be tomorrow

Torontonians are being urged to mark the fifth anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks by leaving flowers and tributes Monday at the U.S. Consulate-General.

A group of prominent citizens issued the appeal, which a supporter said yesterday was aimed at reviving the global empathy felt immediately after hijacked planes were flown into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, killing about 3,000 people.

“It’s not in any way political or promotional,” said Theo Caldwell, head of Caldwell Securities. “We want a very simple, respectful memorial. We would like to try to capture some of that goodwill, support and solidarity.”

Volunteers will be stationed at the consulate, at 360 University Ave., to receive the tributes.

I was planning on it, anyway. I’m just glad that others thought of it, too.
