We will meet at 8 AM in front of the Provincial Court House at 800 Hornby where, according to the BCHRT website, the hearing will take place.

Breaking News: Gov’t to launch inquiry into commissions

May 30th, 2008

The Conservative government has introduced a motion to Parliament’s Justice Committee proposing an investigation into the abusive, corrupt practises of the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The motion specifically refers to public “concerns” about the CHRC’s “investigative techniques” and their “interpretation and application” of the section 13 thought crimes provision.

Some may say we’ve been wailing and screaming over nothing. But then again, maybe there were people back in the 50’s who thought that wanting to sit at the front of the bus was nothing, too. Beware: Section 13 will end. One way or another, it will end. Fire. Them. All.

Toronto wonders what’s happening to the tourists

May 30th, 2008

Well, here’s a hint. Americans are always belittled, insulted and generally despised - openly - when they come to our “fair” city. Now even the city councilors are getting in on the act.

It is interesting to note that letters criticizing Toronto City Council for closing down city-run shooting ranges were sent from Mississauga, Halifax, Wellesley, Ont., Pickering and Peterborough.

I supported shutting down the shooting ranges because I believe it is hypocritical for city council to call for a total ban on handguns, while supporting and in fact subsidizing gun culture at city-run facilities – especially when recreation programs to keep kids away from the draw of a street culture that too often includes weapons are underfunded in Toronto.

Letters from outside the city and indeed from across North America have been trickling in since council made its decision. My favourite letters are the ones being sent from the U.S. Gun owners there are now urging a boycott of Toronto. Considering that most of the problems with guns on our streets emanate from south of the border, I couldn’t be happier.

If all it took was closing a couple of shooting ranges to stop gun-toting Yanks from coming to our city, maybe we should have shut the doors on these clubs years ago.

As for people outside Toronto, you are free to shoot off your mouths in this city or any other town. Just don’t shoot off a gun in Toronto.

Another one bites the dust

May 29th, 2008

Just another evening in Toronto.

A man was shot to death last night in an apparent gun battle on a northeast Toronto street corner.

Residents heard as many as five gunshots and the sounds of screeching tires on Bonis Ave. near Birchmount Rd. and Sheppard Ave. E. at about 11:20 p.m.

Police arrived to find the victim sprawled at the rear of the Agincourt Mall.

No word on whether the perp was a duck hunter or a target shooter.

Students graduate, head to Fuck U

May 29th, 2008

A high school east of Cleveland is saying “no” to two teens who want to wear their military uniforms on stage at their high school graduation.

Will McDonnell, an active duty marine, and Tony Workman, an Army National Guardsman, are graduating from Chardon High School in Geauga County.

McDonnell took extra classes and met his graduation requirements last fall so he could attend a 13-week Marine Boot Camp in February. Workman went through the Army’s 10-week basic training last summer.

McDonnell tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 he was stunned when his dad told him the news. He says he and Workman had previously been told they would
be allowed to wear their uniforms.

McDonnell says Principal Doug Delong did listen to their concerns, but says he doesn’t want to open the door for similar requests from members of other organizations. The two will be allowed to lead in the Honor Guard in their uniforms.

But Delong says if they don’t wear the robe and cap for the ceremony, they can’t walk on stage with the other students on Saturday. McDonnell tells our Bill Wills they will wear their uniforms, but will simply stand at their seats when their names are called.

The graduation is set for tomorrow, the 31st. Here’s who you can contact:

Just so you know, both boys are permitted to wear their uniforms at the
beginning of the ceremony. They will be carrying the colors and marching
with members of the VFW, standing at the front of the stage for the National
Anthem and the Pledge. Then I will be publicly recognizing them for their
accomplishment. After that, I asked them to sit with their classmates, put
on their cap and gown for the remainder of the ceremony. This was discussed
with the one family that made the request three weeks ago.

Thanks

Mr. DeLong

Let the students wear their uniforms. They are willing to give their
lives for your freedom.

It’s the least you can do.

I’m only surprised it didn’t happen sooner.

Three Duke lacrosse players falsely accused of rape are suing the city of Durham and the prosecutor who brought the charges against them. The players were cleared of all charges.

FOX news reports the court has ruled that the wrongly charged Duke LaCross players can now move ahead with their civil lawsuits against the now disbarred prosecutor and lefty-liberal criminal, Michael Byron Nifong.

THE rejection of a proposal to build a large Islamic school in western Sydney will taint Australia’s multicultural image, the Islamic Council of NSW says.

And another Islamic think-tank has called it a “victory for racisim“.

Heh.

I love how the Executive Director of FAIR pulls that whole never even met a Muslim bullshit. That is so tired. Is there really anyone left on the planet who hasn’t met a Muslim? They’re everywhere! Just walking down the street on an average day, I pass about 100 of them. I talk to about 30 of them. I have regular contact with about 15. I actually like one. Find me someone who has never met a Muslim, and I’ll tell you to take him back to Amish Country.

British pounds

May 27th, 2008

Here in Ontario, our health care money goes toward the all-important task of supplying queers with vaginae. In the UK, it is spent to staple fat people’s stomachs - something that only rich women in Hollywood used to have done.

Britain’s obesity epidemic has reached such an extent that the number of people having stomach surgery has shot up by 41 per cent in just one year.

New figures show there were 3,459 gastric bypass operations last year for obesity - up from 2,448 the year before.

Each operation costs the NHS around £7,000 - meaning last year the NHS paid more than £24 million for gastric bypass surgery alone.

Gastric bypass operations, which cut of part of the stomach and intestine, are normally only performed on people who are so obese that their life is in imminent danger from heart attack or stroke.

A couple of things: First of all, kudos on doing something for £7,000 to stave off thousands of pounds of care in later years from diabetes, stroke, heart conditions etc.

BUT: I worry that not enough is being done to make sure people don’t gain the weight back. See, a lot of people think the surgery is a miracle cure. It’s not. I have talked to dozens of people who have had it done, only to go back to their old habits and gain all the weight back. This is not a good use of public money. I realize that obesity is a serious issue (my fat ass reminds me of that every day!), but I would rather see the price of green peppers go down before I would want to see so much being spent on a cosmetic surgery that may not solve the long-term problem. Progressives are always on about “root causes”, and this is one area where I agree with them. You cannot change a lifetime of habit in a 3 hour surgery. A person has to be in the right headspace in order to lose weight. Sometimes it takes a health scare. Sometimes it’s a nasty comment from a trusted loved-one. Sometimes it is a positive, like wanting to be more fertile and start a family.

But like going into detox for that last time, you need to have hit your bottom (no fat pun intended) before you can lose the weight. The NHS is spending a lot of money on the symptom, not the disease.

‘These figures have gone up because people are realising that surgical treatment can achieve long-term results if it is done in the right way and with adequate follow-up,’ he said.

The article doesn’t indicate - beyond the post-op care to avoid infection etc - just what kind of follow-up will be provided. We can only hope it will be weekly meetings with nutritionist, shrink, and personal trainer. And we can also hope that the patients actually attend.

Then again, if they are willing to attend those meetings, why not just give them a membership to a good health club for about £1,000, with all three of those people on hand to help them? Hell hath no fury like a good personal trainer. I should know - my ass is 6 inches smaller than it was in November. No surgery required.
