Racism!!!
Quick, tell me where I fill out a Human Rights Commission complaint! I went to a little Chinese restaurant on Yonge south of Eglington with Mr. Right this evening. The food was great, the service was great… but at the end of the meal I noticed that the Chinese party at the table next to us had been given chopsticks, while Mr. Right and I had eaten with the supplied forks.
It’s racism, folks. Institutional racism. Whitey couldn’t possibly figure out how to eat with the wooden sticks. Where’s Babs Hall when you need her?

That’s happened to me in the USA, never in Ontario. The way to deal is to say, “Chopsticks, please” in an affronted sort of voice as soon as the fork comes out.

Or you could be polite and ask for chopsticks. There is no need to use an affronted voice.
What you are describing is overt racism. The server assumed you were not able to figure out chopsticks and you were treated thusly. Institutional racism is also called systemic racism which had nothing to do with your situation.

Don’t feel insulted, there are still some dumb “whities” out there who still can’t figure out the benefits of paying big bucks to eat raw fish with a couple of pieces of lumber…there’s enough ignorance to go around

Oh, the pain, the SUFFERING! You’ve been exposed to ridicule; and I, for one, am strangly prompted to track you down and beat you up.
You should get six figures for this, easy.

Forks are better than chopsticks.

I think you got it backwards in that you were given the European implements, indicating you racial privilege in dealing with Eurocentric technology while the Orientals were given the implements that the paternalistic West used to keep them in a continued state of infantilism.
