Contest!! How do I love thee?

red-cupid I count the ways every time I post an article to Girl on the Right. After all, without y’all, I’d just be talking to myself. Without my readers, I would have died last year. Between your monetary gifts and even roofs over my head, you made 2009 possible for me. Without you I wouldn’t be here right now.

Anyway, I didn’t want this to get maudlin. There’s a higher purpose to this post. Valentine’s Day is coming… but before it gets here, Girl on the Right will turn 5! That’s right, I’ve been hacking away at this blog for five years, effective Wednesday, February 11. There were days along the way I wanted to chuck it all, shut it down and forget everything I’d learned about things like Islam and the way governments are run. I even took a hiatus for most of the month of December, just for a break. In fact (I’ll let you all in on a little secret), I was planning on selling Girl on the Right in the New Year. I was tired.

But like all great loves, you have your bad days along with your good ones. It doesn’t mean you have to toss the whole relationship. You don’t have to cut and run.

Tell me you love me.

For RightGirl’s 5th birthday, I am holding a contest. I want you, my loyal readership, to write me a love letter. I want you to write a letter to RightGirl, or to the blog itself, telling me why you come back day after day, and what you’ve gained from your time here.

Get creative. Send it in an email, in a YouTube video or even a spoken-word MP3.

Send submissions to iloverightgirl-AT-gmail-DOT-com

The winner will receive:

* A copy of America Alone, signed by Mark Steyn
* A copy of The Tyranny of Nice, signed by Kathy Shaidle
* A Larry, Curly & Mohamed shirt
* A box of Valentine chocolates

In addition, your letter or MP3 will be on Brass Balls Radio, and your video will be posted here at GOTR.

Winner will be announced on February 11th, with snippets of your fab entries posted in the days leading up.

Good luck, and thank you for five wonderful years.

  2. Since I am so much more creative than anyone else on the blarggywebs, I am going to have to forfeit to avoid the hate that would come from winning. I’ll just offer this reason why I read your blog, you know since you are a girl and all. It’s almost like dating someone, you just can’t stop unless something goes badly wrong. So far, so NOT bad, yet. Know what I mean?

And I can’t figure out how to delete blogs from my Google Reader. I am almost Obamesque in my stupidity.

  4. The God’s honest truth is I don’t know why I come back to your blog day after day, I just do. There is something special that I can’t put my finger on. There is something special within you that somehow shows through your keyboard and out of my monitor. It’s compelling. Why? F if I know, but it does.

Wit, sarcasim, humor, intellegence, and something feminine and alluring, maybe even erotic in a way, there is something about you. You’re scary like a mom can be, mean like a sister… and can do a pretty dang good job of writing stuff worth reading… so you are, dare I say, inspiring.

I’ll think about it, …maybe I’ll write something..

  11. I come here because you are everything I could wish to be: brilliant, articulate, courageous and beautiful . . . O.K., the truth is, this is the first time I’ve been to this site (via Steynonline), but I want that autographed copy of America Alone. Please.

I do wear pearls, if that helps my chances.

  13. Words are not cheap RG. Your getting a 5 year Anniversary Gift in the form of a $25 blog contribution, which you have earned by working hard and writing humorously and creatively at more than one entertaining blog.

Plus ditto to everything everyone else has said here. And if this contribution help bribe…uh, influence your opinion in this contest, let it be, cause ‘I’ want that T-shirt! :)

  15. Is it karma? Is it kizmet? Perhaps it is the End of Times and I have come to garner my just rewards?!?!!? Nah, I’m here because I was on TNOYF and saw that a Rightie Hottie was gonna show Boobie. Well, I kinda figured it was a trap, so I came here anyhow. That kinda blatent and gratutious plea for support was compelling. Now I come for the prize my dear RightGirl.

My love for you can not be completely expressed in words, all I can offer you is my entire life. I loved you 21 years ago when I left my High School, about 2 hours after I graduated, to get on a bus to MEPS and then to board the first aircraft I’d ever been on. Of course it was not ALL for you, and I know you will understand when I say that it was for myself as well…I wanted to be a man. I’ll freely admit that you were in my dreams every night, I was 17 years old after all. There is a myth that they put salt-peter in the water, the truth is you only get a splinter of time in your thoughts as you head to slumber before you sleep deeply in expectation of the trials ahead. I gave my best for you my sweet, I was one of two in my entire class to make Honor Graduate. Again, you must know it WAS for you, but I had to do the BEST I could for my own pride and honor, would you return my love if I was just a slave? I kept my dedication to duty for almost 22 years now, for you my lovely jewel. Sadly, I have had to swallow my words when others of low and mean demeanor would take sword and pen against me, but I know now my sacrifice is worth it. I gave my ALL to make sure I had YOU to protect me. Go forth and slay the monsters my Shield-Maiden, my special Valentine.
