More on the Mad Mufti of Jerusalem

cimg1692Suzanne decided to do a little digging into the previous speeches made by Sheik Akrama Sabri of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, that Blazing Cat Fur and I had the ahem, pleasure, of hearing speak on Sunday night.

Suzanne translates a piece from Richard Martineau about the Sheik’s belief that a man who forces himself on his wife isn’t committing “rape”:

Brothers and sisters, it is no secret than in the West, it is permitted to have a mistress. There are even laws that allow for the imprisonment of men who force their wives to have sexual relations with them when they don’t want any! But if the man sleeps with his mistress, there is no problem.

Those are the laws of the West. A man is considered a rapist just because he slept with his wife against her will.

This is an issue that has been in the news in recent days, because Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s passing of a law that legalizes forced marital sex. For many years now, Karzai has been considered an ally and a so-called “moderate*” because of his openness to democracy and his cooperation with Western forces in Afghanistan. Yet on the subject of sexual subjugation of women, he is no different from the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, an Islamic hardliner.

*There is no such thing as a “moderate” Muslim. I can produce a Leprechaun for you before you can produce a “moderate” Muslim for me.

  1. You have a real hard on (metaphorically speaking) for those A-rabs, doncha baby? Personally they bother me about as much as my neighbors poodle. Now those Israelites, that’s where our (US) problems lie. They are more akin to a rabid, steroid injesting, foaming at the mouth, pit bull.

In what weird, alternate universe? — oh right, in fascist fairyland. “It’s the Joos…”

    — Day was asked whether he thought Israel was doing a poor job of advocacy in light of negative media coverage. He replied, to laughter, that if the Jewish people control the media, as some people think, “they’re doing a very poor job.” –

But RightGirl, regarding “moderate” Muslims, what about Tarek Fatah or Salim Mansur?

  3. The paradox of men like Mansur and Fatah is that they are not even regarded as Muslims in their own community. So are they moderates, or are they not Muslims at all?

  4. All Women should fell nothing but anticipatory joy at the thought of coupling with these followers of a Moon god & his prophet of blood. Rape does not exist in Islam, since Women where only created to be a brood mare & give pleasure to men. There only right is to do the biding of men.

  5. The question of who is and is not a Muslim is similar to the question of who is and is not a Christian. Mormons call themselves Christians but many denominations would disagree. Do Jehovah’s Witnesses call themselves Christians, too? If so, again, many Christian denominations would disagree.

  6. Might be a good idea to send Lorena Bobbit to the Middle East to educate the women on how to respond to non-consensual sex.

  7. “The question of who is and is not a Muslim is similar to the question of who is and is not a Christian”, except with Christianity it’s only of academic interest, at most, to outsiders. That’s because no denomination of Christianity advocates making war against non-believers, as do all the mainstream schools of Islam.

  9. You can hear the mufti criticizing laws of western countries against marital rape on this Youtube clip:

  10. Brett, I think you have NAILED it. Christians get yanged at for an event in the Middle Ages (that wasn’t even a “christian action”), but never EVER has true Christendom espoused beheading an apostate or killing non-believers for unbelief.

  11. True enough, Brett.

  12. Mrs Lu, I assume you were alluding to the Crusades. In fact the Crusades were a response to the invasion of Jerusalem and Israel by Muslim armies, who oppressed all Jews and Christians who would not convert to Islam. As a final insult they had built a mosque on top the Jewish temple. Arabs were not inhabitants of this area until the Muslim invasions.
