Has Nancy Pelosi been consulted on this?
The new catchphrase on Capitol Hill is BoTax; a type of lethal injection of taxation made from something rotten, and it keeps one from being able to smile.
Blinky Pelosi, as we all know, is an avid user of the rotten vegetable concoction widely marketed as Botox. By the looks of her, she also has a sardine can-like screw at the back of her head to make facelifts easier (and more frequent). Don’t worry, the back-combing covers it.
So it is with much hilarity that a 5% “sin” a tax - like those levied on tobacco and alcohol - is being discussed for cosmetic surgery procedures.
That’s right, kids. You can get a baker’s dozen worth of abortions on the state, but you’ll soon have to duck into a Tijuana back alley to get liposuction. Just in the same way you can get bootleg booze and cigarettes tax-free from the Indian reservations, you’ll soon be going to Tonto to get your boobs enlarged. Got that, Kemosabe?
Not that Pelosi will be affected. The woman is loaded. But the middle class moms who wish to cling to the fleeting youth they see slipping from their grasp will be given a new disincentive with this tax. They will either have to bear the burden of their crow’s feet, or they will seek “discount” providers of the services.
It’s elitist, like the price of arugula at Whole Foods.

you know whats ELITIST…the usage of Arugula! Why can’t you use cheddar or plain american cheese? (just kidding)
I don’t mind a tax on superficial things like this actually. And for people who make enough money to get the surgery done and repeatedly, this might actually slow you down enough to realize that your way of living my fix the issue better than the thousand dollar touch up. Seriously, these quick fixes were expensive to begin with, and if your going to pay for it, you SHOULD go for quality and safety. I don’t bother with staring at someones crows feet, especially since I know I’ll be getting them myself soon enough.

@Gorillamonk - the point of this is that this should be a choice that people are allowed to make, whether or not they want plastic surgery. What is going to happen is there will be more unhealthy, unsafe procedures taking place by doctors that are not qualified. This is a personal choice that health insurers already do not pay for. Our government needs to back out of our lives and our choices!

Maybe they’re levying this tax is because Pelosi has no further need for botox. If Pelosi has any more botox done, her face will be so stiff that she won’t be able to open her mouth anymore. Come to think of it, that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Thanks for the blog RightGirl.
At Gorillamonk: You don’t mind? The new America has sucked you in. A tax is a tax is a tax. We don’t want no more stinking taxes. The flat tax, when tweaked some more would be a fair tax that would be used for the defense of our boarders and the general welfare and would be plenty of revenue if the government hadn’t gotten soooo big. Individuals, that we Americans are, would each have a difference of opinion about what is superficial and a luxury. Here’s my take. Let’s say Senator Bill Nelson from Florida thought, in order to raise more funds for the ignoramus rail system in Florida he introduced a tax for snow moving equipment, most assuredly a luxury in Florida. No one would complain from his district and half the country would say “Who the hell cares I will never need a snow shovel, it won’t affect me” after all how superficial and paranoid would you have to be to need a snow shovel in Florida, Meanwhile the hard working man in Wisconsin (just an example, I really don’t know any hard workers in Wisconsin) couldn’t get his car out of the drive to get to work and looses his job because he could not afford the tax on the snow shovel. A little closer to home. How about if Richard Burr said the only way I will allow wind turbines on the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina is if I collect enough revenue from a tax on running air conditioners. Sorta like Obama hopes to do with his “smart grid”. I shouldn’t give a crap. No ac in this house. Never has been. Don’t need it. A tax is a tax is a tax. We (read you) cannot let ANY tax get through. There are enough monies flowing in to Washington now to create a surplus if only the government could count and possibly do a few simple things the rest of the country do every day, like balance a check book. Truth is, any tax imposed will broaden or increase. You can trust that fact like gravity. There may be temporary tax cuts but no temporary taxes. All these worries about stimulating the economy never needed to happen. Why the hell is government trying to figure out where best to inject money? If they never would have taken the money they wouldn’t have to be trying to give it back (however unfairly).

Meanwhile, in other somewhat related news, Opportunist-In-Chief nabs “Peace” prize on same day sixteen thousand Marines head for the Afghani hell hole…Pelosi, Reid, you couldn’t make this stuff up!
BTW, what the hell’s happened to the Uighars of Bermuda?, have they learned to play golf yet?
