Student, Grade Thyself

by Art Lindsey III

On her Christmas in Washington special on ABC last night, Oprah Winfrey asked President Obama to grade himself.

“Good, solid B-plus,” the president said.

Explaining, he said, “we have inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt
.
“We stabilized the economy, and prevented possibilities of a Great Depression or a significant financial meltdown. The economy is growing again.”

“We are on our way out of Iraq. I think we’ve got the best possible plan for Afghanistan.

“We have reset our image around the world.”
-

Well, who here feels better now? I know I certainly do
.
President Obama’s fondness for referring to himself is well documented, but this is one of his most stunning displays of arrogance yet. The proper answer to this question is, “That is not for me to decide. That is up to the American people.

This is why we don’t grade ourselves in school. (At Least not yet, but who knows. It may not be far down the road. First, teachers aren’t allowed to use red pens, so it seems logical that “self-assessment” may soon follow.) According to a New Rasmussen poll, Obama’s approval rating has dipped to 44 percent, and it should be noted that this is one of the fastest drops in US presidential history.

Now, I don’t know about any of you, but when I went to school, if I saw a “44” on my paper, that meant I got a big, fat “F”. In fact, I had to get a “90” to even get a “B”.

How can a man who approved a $787 billion spending bill (which for all intents and purposes has failed) sit idly by as congress is about to approve nearly another $2 trillion in spending? Seeing that the only “successes” that his administration can seem to tout is that “we didn’t lose as many jobs this month as last month”, shows that he lacks basic math skills. Such a claim is not an indication off success in a sane world. Logic would dictate that at some point, the job loss numbers would have to decrease simply because we are running out of jobs to lose. Somebody has to work. If nobody worked, society would collapse.

So, if by “stabilizing the economy” he means holding the unemployment numbers at a nice bouncy, round number like 10 percent, then yes, he is doing an outstanding job. If by “resetting our image” he means bowing and scraping to every would leader he can get a photo-op with, he’s earned a spot on the Dean’s List.

President Obama is so disengaged from reality that he either doesn’t hear what comes out of his own mouth or worse yet, the multiple failures he has presided over or instigated are perceived as achievements in eyes, regardless of what the data may suggest.
He has turned America into a poorly controlled science fair project, and the media that he has a “teacher’s pet” relationship with is giving him a passing grade.

One could argue that this is akin to cheating, and in the end, cheaters always get caught, don’t they?

  1. So Oprah asked a question and Obama answered it. Gosh, how presumptuous of him. ;)

If you’ve been paying attention to the economic analyses, you will have noted that employment is a lagging indicator. It falls more slowly that other key indicators (which you’re ignoring), and rises more slowly as well.

“President Obama is so disengaged from reality that he either doesn’t hear what comes out of his own mouth or worse yet, the multiple failures he has presided over or instigated are perceived as achievements in eyes, regardless of what the data may suggest.”

You’re not a very good writer, and you’re not a very good propagandist. You may recall that one point upon which Obama, Bush and McCain ALL agreed was that the current fiscal crisis was going to require several years to recover from, and considerable government intervention. So don’t pretend this is Obama’s failure.

  2. That was, like most of Obama’s narcissistic public performances, hard to watch, ie. barf inducing. Most any other leader asked such a question would have declined to answer - “… leave it others to make that assessment…” etc.

  4. Narcissist-In-Chief grades self!, hahahaha, and yet the mainstream press snores on. What ever happened to hard-hitting journalism?, where’s the rapier wit?

Cheaters get caught?, not this cheater, in the short time he’s been in office he’s gotten a pass so many times I’ve lost count. So you know what happens to those kids that always beat the system dontcha? yep, they become bigger and bolder bullies. You ain’t seen nothing yet, wait until he pardons Mumia and his him to dinner at the White House.

He’s going to continue to push the boundries as long as he’s allowed to. We’ve all seen it in school as kids, we’ve seen it in the workplace and in the streets. Harry “Race Card” Reid says those who oppose the health care fiasco are racist, soon the rhetoric from Obama and his enablers will be much the same.

  6. I don’t think that you can blame him for the 44% approval rating. Given the state of the US economy, this is not bad. I would be more worried if he had done more to please his base (pull out of Afghanistan, go even further into debt) and maintained a higher approval rating.

  8. The biggest problem is he believes what he says. In fact I think he thinks he is being modest in his comments. This guy is way more of a problem than everyone thinks.

  9. yes, Obama seems to be personally alright. He had the decency to say that he did not deserve his Nobel. The problem is that he seriously thinks that he saved the economy from a great depression by increasing spending. If he was amoral and intelligent he would notch up his rhetoric but not spend so much. He seems a decent guy, but an affirmative action hire who is very much out of his depth when the economy is in crisis.

  10. There’s either a problem with the answer or if he didn’t answer the implications. Damned if you do and flamed if you don’t. I appreciate that our president is leading this multi headed beast of a country and he’s the FIRST person everyone blames for something going awry. Imagine being the parent of 10-12 kids about the same age and you are the ONLY parent. You’ve got to take care of them, feed them and make sure that whatever they break is fixed or paid for…have a little compassion for someone that is managing not just a job but a country.
