Think about human sexuality. Man needs to spread it around to keep the population growing. Woman tempers man by reining him in. Man without woman - without desire for woman - can spin out of control. The Pope has called the raids carried out by Belgian police investigating priestly sex abuse “deplorable” and asserted the autonomy of the Catholic Church to investigate abuse alongside civil law enforcement authorities.

The point of a Pope is to speak to the masses on behalf of God. He is not to actually BE God. He is a human, as are those priests, cardinals and bishops under him (no pun intended). It has taken 2000 years, but finally, the current Pope has come out and said that his clergy are guilty of sin.

In his most thorough admission of the church’s guilt in the clerical sex abuse scandal, Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday the greatest persecution of the institution “is born from the sins within the church,” and not from a campaign by outsiders.

The pontiff said the Catholic church has always been tormented by problems of its own making - a tendency that is being witnessed today “in a truly terrifying way.”

“The church needs to profoundly relearn penitence, accept purification, learn forgiveness but also justice,” he said.

“Forgiveness cannot substitute justice,” he said.

About bloody time. While the Church might find a century to be but a moment, the rest of us boots on the ground tend to get a little impatient.

Further to my podcast last week, which began as an argument with fellow blogger Skippy Stalin, the Islamic rape of boys and girls is a standard cultural practice. Our Catholic church has a problem with repressed homosexual clergy engaging in sex with boys despite this being culturally and legally verboten. Whereas in Islam, it’s all good.

The argument I had with Skippy was that apparently, I wasn’t screaming enough about the rape of kids in the Church, even though I repeatedly pointed out the rape of kids in Islam, therefore making me a hypocrite. Or something. My argument was that in our Judeo-Christian culture, kidfucking=bad, but it Islam, kidfucking=business-as-usual. And that I therefore had every right to decry such a culture.

In The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan, Afghan journalist Najibullah Quraishi (Behind Taliban Lines) returns to his native land to expose an ancient practice that has been brought back by powerful warlords, former military commanders and wealthy businessmen. Known as “bacha bazi” (literal translation: “boy play”), this illegal practice exploits street orphans and poor boys, some as young as 11, whose parents are paid to give over their sons to their new “masters.” The men dress the boys in women’s clothes and train them to sing and dance for the entertainment of themselves and their friends. According to experts, the dancing boys are used sexually by these powerful men.

In detailed conversations with several bacha bazi masters in northern Afghanistan and with the dancing boys they own, reporter Quraishi reveals a culture where wealthy Afghan men openly exploit some of the poorest, most vulnerable members of their society.

“What was so unnerving about the men I had met was not just their lack of concern for the damage their abuse was doing to the boys,” Quraishi says. “It was also their casualness with which they operated and the pride with which they showed me their boys, their friends, their world. They clearly believed that nothing they were doing was wrong.”

Because nothing they’re doing IS wrong, in their culture. Which therefore makes the entire culture corrupt.

Samuel Nana-Effah said allegations that he digitally penetrated the girl and had her perform oral sex before repeatedly engaging in intercourse with her while she was being babysat by his sister were “lies.”

According to Mr. Nana-Effah, he couldn’t have committed the acts because he would leave his sister’s house within 30 minutes to an hour of getting out of bed to go downtown and sell crack.

A link between terrorism plots and hardcore child pornography is becoming clear after a string of police raids in Britain and across the Continent, an investigation by The Times has discovered. Images of child abuse have been found during Scotland Yard antiterrorism swoops and in big inquiries in Italy and Spain.

Secret coded messages are being embedded into child pornographic images, and paedophile websites are being exploited as a secure way of passing information between terrorists.

The bearded ones have found a way to take two things we in the West deplore - terrorism and child porn - and package it all neatly together. Sweet.

Australian Aboriginal children remain vulnerable to sexual abuse a year after the government sent in police and soldiers to clean up their remote communities, the author of a report into the problem said on Friday.

Aboriginal groups are expected to hold weekend protests to mark a year since the former conservative administration ordered a sweeping intervention in outback towns and settlements to tackle chronic alcoholism from “rivers of grog” and child sexual abuse.

“They’re more vulnerable because they’re not in a school situation, they’re not in any disciplined situation. They’re just left in a house,” said Rex Wild, the co-author of the Little Children Are Sacred report which led to the intervention.

Wild’s government-sanctioned report found child sexual abuse was widespread in indigenous communities and alcohol posed the gravest threat to the safety of indigenous children in the outback Northern Territory.

So they formed a circle around Charlie of willing people who became highly trained, who met with him daily and would be on call at any time for him, and who would also alert the authorities the moment he suggested he might re-offend. They became known as Charlie’s Angels.

Ok. These volunteers are taking on a difficult project, as well as protecting their community. It’s not something I could do, that’s for sure. I’m more of the “castrate him with a rusty spoon” mentality. But I will give respect where it’s due. Good for them.

A tip from a Canadian resident ended Richard Steve Goldberg’s stint on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, and the alleged child molester is now awaiting extradition, the bureau said.

According to the Web site for the television show, “America’s Most Wanted,” Goldberg had been seeing a nonprofit counselor under the alias Terry Wayne Kearns. He allegedly told the counselor he was an American fugitive, but the charges against him were “trumped up,” the Web site said.

The counselor told a friend, who found Goldberg on the FBI Web site, according to “America’s Most Wanted.”

The 61-year-old former engineer had been on the run for six years after he was charged in 2001 with producing child pornography, two counts of possessing child pornography and six counts of performing lewd acts on a child, the FBI said. He also faces unlawful flight charges.
