The soaring birth rate among immigrant mothers will soon become the main driver of Britain’s rapid population growth, Government experts predicted today.

Immigration has been the biggest factor in increasing the population in recent years, and with millions of new arrivals starting families the birth rate is soaring.

The Office for National Statistics said yesterday that it could be the main source of overall population growth as early as next year, overtaking immigration itself.

Almost a quarter of all babies in Britain are now born to immigrant mothers. In London the figure is 54 per cent, rising to 75 per cent in some boroughs.

Foreign-born mothers have an average of 2.54 children, compared with 1.79 for women born in the UK.

Bristol City Council wants to prune bushes and remove cover from an area known as the Downs to improve the landscape and encourage rare wildlife.

But its own gay rights group has opposed the move, claiming that cutting back the bushes was “discriminating” to homosexual men who used the area for late night outdoor sex known as dogging.

Work on the beauty spot has been temporarily delayed while talks with gay rights groups take place to try and break the deadlock.

A man has been charged with killing a former soldier allegedly attacked on a bus after telling thugs not to swear in front of a lady.

Stan Dixon, 60, had been fighting for life since the attack on Saturday but died in hospital yesterday, police revealed today.

A 23-year-old man initially arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent has now been charged with the murder.

Mr Dixon, renowned for his traditional values, was travelling home with his 41-year-old partner on Saturday evening when he heard the group’s bad language.

He asked them to refrain from swearing in front of a woman - but the couple were met with a torrent of abuse.

To avoid any further confrontation, they decided to get off at an earlier stop than they had planned.

But as they stood at the doors of the bus, which was nearing Mr Dixon’s home in Horden, County Durham, two of the gang allegedly pushed him in the back.

The father of three fell forwards off the bus, on to the road where he collapsed unconscious with major head injuries.

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner has vowed to step up police efforts in combating knife crime in the wake of the death of 16-year-old Ben Kinsella.

Speaking at City Hall, Sir Ian Blair said the community needed to reach out to teenagers and their parents.

Sir Ian expressed his “deep sadness” at the death of the teenager and said the death would see police “rededicate efforts to stop others dying”.

He re-emphasised his support for the London Mayor Boris Johnson’s overall approach, but said some factors went beyond policing.

Sir Ian said: “We need as the whole community of London to reach out to young people and their parents to get rid of the knives on our streets and provide them with alternatives to crime and gang membership.”

Ken Bigley, a British engineer working on reconstruction projects in Iraq, was beheaded by the Tawhid and Jihad (”Oneness of God and Jihad”) Islamist group, led by Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

The British have given up. They are happy to live under Muslim rule, happy to pay the jizya.

Islamic extremists in Britain are openly trying to recruit children via the internet, a report warns.

They are using websites which carry messages of hate from terror suspects, according to the respected Civitas think-tank.

Extremists are no longer delivering hate-filled sermons and distributing propaganda on street corners, but instead use pro-jihadist websites.

Some of these carry calls for the flag of Islam to ‘fly over Downing Street’, and urge militants to attack Jews and Christians.

Hazel Blears, the Communities Secretary, defended Labour’s policy on religion after a report backed by the Church of England claimed that Muslims receive a disproportionate amount of attention.

She said it was right that more money and effort was spent on Islam than Christianity because of the threat from extremism and home-grown terrorism.

Ms Blears told BBC Radio 4’s Sunday programme: “That’s just common sense. If we’ve got an issue where we have to build resilience of young Muslim men and women to withstand an extremist message.”

Two Christian preachers were stopped from handing out Bible extracts by police because they were in a Muslim area, it was claimed yesterday.

They say they were told by a Muslim police community support officer that they could not preach there and that attempting to convert Muslims to Christianity was a hate crime.

The community officer is also said to have told the two men: ‘You have been warned. If you come back here and get beat up, well, you have been warned.’

A police constable who was present during the incident in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham is also alleged to have told the preachers not to return to the district.

It comes amid growing concern over the development of Islamic ‘no-go areas’.

Christianity is a religion that proselytizes. It always has. Christ himself preached his Word to thousands. Many chose to follow him. Others perhaps took some good from his message, ignored the rest, and went home to be Jews and Gentiles - just as they were before his sermons. He never held a knife to anyone’s throat and forced their conversion to Christianity. And neither did these two men in Birmingham.

Here in Ontario, our health care money goes toward the all-important task of supplying queers with vaginae. In the UK, it is spent to staple fat people’s stomachs - something that only rich women in Hollywood used to have done.

Britain’s obesity epidemic has reached such an extent that the number of people having stomach surgery has shot up by 41 per cent in just one year.

New figures show there were 3,459 gastric bypass operations last year for obesity - up from 2,448 the year before.

Each operation costs the NHS around £7,000 - meaning last year the NHS paid more than £24 million for gastric bypass surgery alone.

Gastric bypass operations, which cut of part of the stomach and intestine, are normally only performed on people who are so obese that their life is in imminent danger from heart attack or stroke.

A couple of things: First of all, kudos on doing something for £7,000 to stave off thousands of pounds of care in later years from diabetes, stroke, heart conditions etc.

BUT: I worry that not enough is being done to make sure people don’t gain the weight back. See, a lot of people think the surgery is a miracle cure. It’s not. I have talked to dozens of people who have had it done, only to go back to their old habits and gain all the weight back. This is not a good use of public money. I realize that obesity is a serious issue (my fat ass reminds me of that every day!), but I would rather see the price of green peppers go down before I would want to see so much being spent on a cosmetic surgery that may not solve the long-term problem. Progressives are always on about “root causes”, and this is one area where I agree with them. You cannot change a lifetime of habit in a 3 hour surgery. A person has to be in the right headspace in order to lose weight. Sometimes it takes a health scare. Sometimes it’s a nasty comment from a trusted loved-one. Sometimes it is a positive, like wanting to be more fertile and start a family.

But like going into detox for that last time, you need to have hit your bottom (no fat pun intended) before you can lose the weight. The NHS is spending a lot of money on the symptom, not the disease.

‘These figures have gone up because people are realising that surgical treatment can achieve long-term results if it is done in the right way and with adequate follow-up,’ he said.

The article doesn’t indicate - beyond the post-op care to avoid infection etc - just what kind of follow-up will be provided. We can only hope it will be weekly meetings with nutritionist, shrink, and personal trainer. And we can also hope that the patients actually attend.

Then again, if they are willing to attend those meetings, why not just give them a membership to a good health club for about £1,000, with all three of those people on hand to help them? Hell hath no fury like a good personal trainer. I should know - my ass is 6 inches smaller than it was in November. No surgery required.

When Leeann Phelan was told her unborn baby had an incurable brain abnormality, she faced an agonising decision.

At 23 weeks, he was one week short of the current abortion limit of 24 weeks, which was set with the received medical wisdom that babies born that premature do not survive.

UPDATE: I see I should have been clearer about the rules in Britain. If a baby is born under 24 weeks, the hospital is not obliged to provide neo-natal care. The baby can be considered a miscarriage at that age, and not viable, even if born alive. Sweet, huh? But Jayden’s parents must have fought pretty damn hard to get him care. Good for them.

Counter-terrorist officers suspected mentally-ill Nicky Reilly had forged links with known Islamic extremists at an internet cafe near his home.

Reilly’s mother Kim has a third son, ten-year-old Elliott. All her children have different fathers.

Reilly attended prayers at two Islamic centres in Plymouth. He stood out as the lone English convert at the Islamic Centre for Plyand Cornwall in the Mutley area, said a spokesman. His last visit is thought to have been about seven months ago.

Nicky Reilly needs to be sent to a mental institution - not a prison where he will become further radicalized or possibly killed - where he can be deprogrammed of the vile spew that he’s been fed by these heartless Muslims who took him on as an easy mark.
