Z4 Teasaer 1

Some interesting details about both the BMW Z4 and the Toyota Supra emerged from an internal BMW coding sheet revealed at supramkv.com, which looks to be legit. The Z4 and the Supra are sister models, developed in close collaboration, and prototypes are a frequent sight around Munich of late. BMW has been releasing teaser images of a concept version of its new roadster (above), a vehicle it plans to display at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The BMW Z4, slated for a mid-2018 launch, will be rear-wheel drive only and will come with either a four- or a six-cylinder engine. The entry-level model for the U.S. is the Z4 sDrive 30i, powered by a turbocharged four that we believe will make about 250 horsepower. Above that, BMW will offer the Z4 M40i, propelled by a 3.0-liter inline-six that we expect to make about 360 horsepower. The great news is that both BMW models will be available with a manual transmission as well as the inevitable automatic.

The document, which contains information that still may be subject to change, doesn’t bear such good tidings for Supra lovers. There will be two engine choices, again a four- and a six-cylinder, but they’ll all shift for themselves: No clutch pedals appear in the plan for Toyota’s coupe.
