Obsessive collectors of limited-edition supercars already know theirs is a pricey pastime. But it’s a hobby that’s set to get even more expensive with Aston Martin’s announcement that it will be producing not one, but two more Zagato versions of the Vanquish: a speedster and a shooting brake, which will join the coupe and the Volante roadster that the company has already produced.

Catching ’em all won’t be cheap, although it certainly will put you in good company. But while Aston has announced that it will build 99 shooting brakes, the same limited run as was commissioned for the coupe and the Volante, the cut-down speedster will be rarer still, with just 28 to be built when construction begins next year. All the speedsters have already been sold, but we’re told that it might be possible to land one of the shooting brakes, one of very few opportunities to own what is basically an Aston Martin station wagon, albeit a two-seater.

Both the speedster and the shooting brake have been unveiled ahead of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California, and both will use the same 580-hp version of Aston’s long-serving naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-12 as previously fitted to the coupe and the Volante. Both cover a version of Aston’s familiar bonded-aluminum frame with special carbon-fiber bodywork—although not very much of it in the case of the stripped-down speedster. The speedster doesn’t have a roof, but the “speed humps” behind its seats are designed to represent the double-bubble roof that has been a feature of many of Aston and Zagato’s previous collaborations.

The relationship between James Bond’s favorite sports-car maker and the Italian carrozzeria is long, dating back to the DB4 GT, which Zagato rebodied almost 60 years ago. Other notable collaborations included the V8 Zagato coupe, the DB AR1, and the DB7 Zagato, and while not all have been handsome, they have always been rare and distinctive.
